What role do your prayer partners play in your life and ministry? I want to share with you one of my favorite videos of all time. It beautifully captures the relationship between mission workers and their ministry partners, and I hope it will inspire you to ask for prayer.
Running the race together: A beautiful picture of partnership
During the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, British sprinter Derek Redmond tore his hamstring while competing in the 400 meter race. Grimacing in pain, Redmond hobbled on the track in an effort to finish the race. What happened next was unforgettable.
Derek’s father, Jim, came down from the stands to join his son on the track. He embraced Derek, affirmed him, and helped him walk to the finish line. They completed the race together in one of the great moments in Olympics history.
Prayer requests: An invitation to run the race together
I love this video because it depicts the nature of your relationship with your ministry partners. When you ask for prayer, you are inviting your prayer partners to “come down from the stands” and run the race together with you.
There’s nothing that Satan wants more than for you to believe that you’re running the race alone. The truth is that you are surrounded by people who love you. So be bold in asking for prayer and lean on their support as you live out God’s calling together!
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” -Hebrews 12:1-2
